Shopping for maternity clothes… Ugh!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

I’m really not good at choosing clothes… not to mention premaman items! I’m mostly the neutral style follower, even though I’ve been recently influenced by a friend of mine to wear more floral-styled pieces. I’ll still go with combinations of pastel and high comfort though.

The other downside is the fact that I buy at discounted price, but discounts only happen every so many weeks, which means I need to foresee what size I will need when I’ll be 6-7 months pregnant at least. Ugh. That’s though. I bought some items now, and I hope I’m going to fit them when time comes.

Trousers and jeans are my main concern… I hope I picked the right size, and that they won’t bee too tight or too loose as pregnancy goes by.

Dealing with morning sickness

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

In this entry I’m going to share some ‘morning sickness’ tips with you, taken from sources I frequently read online. :) Since I have gotten pregnant, I found myself more and more immersed into mommy books and magazines, and online guides for parents, so I thought it would be good to share what I have learned and thus help other new moms.

The first resource I recommend is the Morning sickness page on Wikipedia.org. I believe Wiki to be one of the most authoritative resources in the world, to a point that I also use it at work as a quick reference for programming. ^^ But back to this post’s main topic.

This article on Morning Sickness says that:

It’s not recognized precisely what causes it, but most physicians concur that the modifications in hormone levels that pregnancy triggers are the most major factor. One of the results of these hormones would be to change the way your digestive system works, which can result in higher degrees of acid.

A trick I use to overcome – at least mildly – the sense of acidity and strong nausea is to never leave my stomach too empty: I do snack often, especially with fruit, crackers, biscuits or toasted bread. Also, I try to keep odours in my house at a mild level, no longer using strongly scented soaps and home detergents. I also keep flowers at the minimum, and I encouraged my husband not to gift me any for some time. :) Trust me, that helps.

Drinking often is a must as well: my doctor complained with me that I drink too little, and that makes everything worse; I feel a lot better since I’ve increased my water intake to 2 liters a day.

Ah yes! Ginger tea! That’s magic with nausea, and it’s still liquid that will benefit you, and relax you at the same time.

I found out, upon getting pregnant, that keeping up with a tight schedule can make symptoms worse, so make sure to get your naps and ‘lazy’ times during the day; it’s better than any medicines. ^^
